My name is Marieke van Asten, born and raised in the Netherlands. Towards the end of November 2016, I moved to the lovely nature island of Dominica, to follow my heart and build my dream, a safe house for children.

In the early hours of September 19th 2017, Hurricane Maria changed all that, for now at least.

After the total destruction and devastation of the island, the focus is now on helping to rebuild the island. Fortunately, I happened to be in the Netherlands during the hurricane,  due to the passing of my mother. And because of the massive damage, I was unable to return.  Yet I felt compelled to do something to help.

Many families lost everything. This also applies to the little toys the children had.  That’s why I started a Foundation, that focusses on children in relation to the rebuilding of the island. For example by helping the public library with new books. And to make sure that, as many children as possible, have a new toy to play with.
Especially after a traumatic experience like this hurricane, it is very important for children
to have something that belongs to them, for comfort or play.

I  returned to the island on December 11th, 2017.

It will be amazing to contribute, in my humble way,  to the rebuilding of the island, with your help.
Can I ask you to support the Foundation with a donation?

Stg. Bread & Fruit for Dominica: NL93RABO0324 0834 32.

I will personally make sure the money is well spent and to keep everyone updated on the website as well as on the Facebook page of the Foundation:  Bread & Fruit for Dominica Foundation. Please contact us for more information!

Can I count you in? On behalf of all the children of Dominica, thank you very much!

Warm regards,
Marieke
